Jeff Chynoweth

Clinton County Council Member District LG

Jeff Chynoweth was elected to the Clinton County Council in 2016. He is an at-large member.

Chynoweth was born in Walled Lake, Michigan and served in the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman stationed with the Marines in Cuba. He was honorably discharged and moved to Jefferson, Indiana in 1981. Chynoweth is currently president of Phillips Saw & Tool in Frankfort where he’s worked for more than 40 years.

Chynoweth serves on the county’s Hospital Committee, Budget Sub-Committee, and Health Insurance Committee. The latter is responsible for securing healthcare coverage for Clinton County employees. In addition to basic coverage, the committee also helped secure added benefits like a small health clinic and health coaches for employees.

Chynoweth was also instrumental in advocating for partnerships with local cities, towns, and school systems, supporting the County’s technological advances and initiatives, and spearheading a market-driven analysis of the County’s employee pay structure. But the project he may be most proud is the extension of utility services out to I-65.

“This was the main reason I wanted to serve in politics,” Chynoweth says. “I believed the State Road 28 and I-65 interchange needed to be developed if our County was to grow and stay competitive in business, in jobs, in housing, and in schools.”

Chynoweth and his wife Kathy have been married for 44 years. They share two adult children and four grandkids. When he’s not working, Chynoweth enjoys spending time with his family and volunteering as a musician at his church a couple times a month.
